Country's Information
Chechnya has been in conflict for hundreds of years. In 1934, after years of struggle with Russia, Chechnya was established Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. This autonomous country has been held by Russia for many years. Chechnya, under the rule of the elected president Dzhokhar Dudayev, declared independence in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed. During this period they were independent from modern day Russia. In 1994 Russia sent troops to crush independence movement in Chechnya. After many years of struggle, today, Chechnya is legally a federal subdivision of Russia. Since 2012, Chechnya is rebuilding its city, especially Grozny. The president of this region is Akhmad Kadyrov.
