Chechnya has been controlled by Russia ever since 1934, when it was declared the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Soon, Chechen rebels attacked Grozny, this attacks as led by Aslan Maskhadov. He signed the Khasavyurt Accords which provided a cease-fire. Aslan signed a formal peace treaty with Yeltsin, this did not resolve the indepedennce of Chechnya. After Aslan declared Islamic Shari'ah law will be phased to end violence, Russia attacks Grozny once again, in 2000. Putin, the leader of Russia, put Chechnya under direct rule of Moscow. He then assigned Akhmat Kadyrov as head of administration in Chechnya. After years of rule, human rights organizations recognize Akhmat as threatening human rights. After many years of kidnappings and violence in Chechnya, Akhmad Kadyrov was elected president. One year late, in 2004, he was killed in a bomb blast in Grozny. Aslan Maskhadov asks Russia for a cease-fire, later Russians say he has been killed in a speacial-operation. Abramov survives bomb attacks and is then the acting president. After many power struggles in Chechnya, Ramsan Kadyrov succeeded Abramov after he resigns. After years of ruling, in 2009 Russia declares Chechnya as "Normalisation". Chechnya is still not normal although. The rebel leader Doku Umarov, becomes present. After a youtube video saying he is resigning, he says the video was a falsification. He is responsible fore many killing and kidnappings of influential people. He then called for the disruption of the Sochi olympics. Even though there is still a presence of violence, the country has been improving. This improvement and reconstruction is backed by Putin. Today it is now legally a federal subdivision of Russia, with there own president, but controlled by Russia.
